Went to see Mamma Mia, the movie musical, with Monica yesterday. It's a funny and entertaining movie. Lots of famous actors and they definitely gave their all and did not pull back, even when they were being absolutely silly. It was so much fun. I remember singing ABBA songs with high school pals, at night in our boarding school. We used the music to express our deep friendship and the sense of love eternal that only teenagers could imagine of having. Growing up in Taiwan, I never knew that ABBA was deemed uncool in certain circles by the young people here in the States. Some could only like the group and their music covertly for fear of being made fun of. Many thought that this "foreign group" was somehow inferior, non-intellectual, or just fake. How odd -- the same group, same "events" created two completely different histories and utterly opposite experiences.
